In this article, the Swedish National Mediation Office’s Senior Legal Advisor describes the developments that led to the establishment of the Office and outlines the principal features of the reform of the mediation system introduced in 2000. He then provides an account of how theSwedish National Mediation Office has carried out key aspects of its tasks during its first 25 years of operation, as well as of the agreements reached by the social partners concerning mediation arrangements conducted under their own auspices.
